Who’s it for?
If your employees work in an industrial environment, or in any setting that involves working with hazardous materials or flying debris or objects, they’re potentially at risk of damaging their eyes.
Specsavers has paired with Stryder Eyewear, to create an enhanced range of safety eyewear covering a wider range of industries than our previous range.
Stryder has been manufacturing safety eyewear for over 50 years and, together, we’ve ensured that our safety line follows rigorous production methods to ensure product integrity and meets all required safety regulations.
The new range is made using materials and processes that offer customers more sustainable* choices and includes a variety of styles, including coloured frames and shapes.
The classic range is based on the styles of some of our global best-selling frames, with the addition of permanent safety side shields which offer protection without obscuring vision. Certified to EN166 standards, each frame offers clarity, durability and protection.
*The range includes frames some of which are made using high-performance raw materials. These raw materials, traditionally sourced from fossil fuels, have a proportion of their content replaced with materials from plant-based sources. This allows customers to reduce their consumption of non-renewable materials without compromising on performance.

Don’t let your team’s eye-care be a blind spot
Businesses are now legally obligated to offer free-eye tests for employees. This should not only be viewed as a wellness benefit, but as a business benefit. The impact of failing to act on eye-care is causing a loss in employee time and productivity.

Good to know
Once your employees have their vouchers (either digitally or as printed copies), they can make an appointment at any Specsavers store in the UK or ROI to redeem their vouchers (which includes a free eye test and, depending on the type of voucher, a contribution towards glasses).
We handle all administration at no extra cost, making it a simple, controllable, and cost-effective scheme. Our online voucher system lets you manage who can order and issue vouchers, personalise them with employee details, distribute them via email or print, and access daily reports on usage, outcomes like Visual Display Unit (VDU) needs, and recommended retest dates.
Any unused vouchers can be returned for a full refund or replacement, provided you contact us up to 60 days after the expiry date.
We have a dedicated customer service department on hand to handle any enquiries or questions.
“Specsavers doesn’t feel like an external supplier – they’re part of our team. It’s a partnership that works, and I would absolutely recommend them to other organisations looking to enhance their employee wellbeing strategy.”

Frequently asked questions
Vouchers
Is there a minimum order value and how quickly can I get my vouchers?
The minimum order is five vouchers, excluding Premium Club. An order can be made up of a variety of different products. On receipt of payment, vouchers will be uploaded to your online portal and the primary account holder will be sent an email to advise of this.
Do eVouchers have an expiry date?
Yes - but any unused vouchers can be replaced or refunded, as long as we are notified within 60 days after the expiry date.
How long are the vouchers valid for?
They are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
How do I pay for vouchers?
There are three payment methods: BACS, cheque or credit card.
How can I keep track of the vouchers I’ve allocated to my employees?
By using the voucher report functionality within the designated online portal.
What happens if I lose my vouchers?
Vouchers can be reprinted or re-sent.
Do I have to use a specific Specsavers store?
You can visit any UK Specsavers store. There are now more than 970 to choose from, many of which are open seven days a week, including late nights.
Why choose Specsavers eyecare at work?
More than 1 in 3 people who wear glasses in the UK buy them from Specsavers. With more than 970 stores around the UK and the Republic or Ireland, we are ideally placed to meet your requirements, wherever your business is located, no matter what size. Many thousands of corporate clients enjoy the benefits of having Specsavers as their nominated eyewear supplier. Our vouchers are simple to use, offer great value for money, and they can be redeemed against any frame styles in store.
DSE
As an employer, what is my legal obligation for DSE users?
You are responsible for the funding of an eye examination and the cost of basic spectacles, if required for DSE work.
Should I be supplying bifocal and varifocal glasses to an employee that uses the computer?
One of the most confusing areas of the DSE regulations concerns bifocals and varifocals. These lenses can be unsuitable for DSE work, as it is not always possible to see the screen clearly without lowering or raising the head, which can lead to other associated problems, such as neck pain. The basic requirement is then to provide single-vision glasses suitable for viewing a screen at the appropriate distance.
How often should an employee have an eye examination?
Usually every two years. However, there may be occasions where more regular checks are required. This could be down to the individual’s family ocular history, for example glaucoma, or some other form of ocular disease. Therefore, based on clinical judgement, the optometrist will recommend retest dates as appropriate.
As an employer, am I legally obligated to provide eyecare?
Yes – under the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992, that came into force on January 1993, you are legally obliged to provide eyecare to certain parts of your workforce. These regulations deal with the suitability of workstations, the daily routines of workers, and the provision of eyecare or staff members.
Does this package cover glasses for driving?
This is a specific DSE package. Please see our package for driving.
Do I need to book an appointment, and if so, how quickly can one be secured?
It’s highly recommended to book an appointment. You will be able to secure an appointment typically within one week, but often more quickly. As a reminder, we will make a courtesy call and/or text you 24 hours before the appointment.
If I request an appointment outside my usual retest cycle, does my employer have to fund this?
Yes - under the current legislation you are entitled to request an eye examination at any time if you feel your eyes have been damaged or strained, or if you have suffered headaches as a consequence of computer work.
Will my glasses include an anti-reflective coating?
No - there is no legislative requirement for this. However, you can request for this lens treatment when in store. This is a personal extra and payable at point of transaction.
Do I have to choose my glasses on the day of my eye examination?
When booking your eye examination make sure you allow enough time to choose your frames.
How do I book an appointment?
You can book an appointment online, by phone or you can book in-store if you are passing by.
Safety
What specification are your prescription safety glasses?
BE EN 166. CR39 and toughened glass are tested to ‘increased robustness’ specification (this is symbolised by an ‘S’ in the engraving). Polycarbonate is tested to ‘high speed particle – low energy impact’ specification (this is symbolised by an ‘F’ in the engraving).
Do your glasses come with polycarbonate lenses?
Our prescription safety glasses include CR39 standard single-vision lenses with a scratch-resistant treatment as standard. Polycarbonate lenses are available at an extra cost.
Can my employee use Safety Eyewear eVouchers in exchange for everyday glasses?
No - Safety Eyewear eVouchers can only be redeemed against the safety eyewear range in store. For every day glasses Optical eVouchers would be the best option.
Is there an additional cost for multifocal lenses?
Yes - it costs £36.81 for Standard bifocal and Standard varifocal lenses. The employee has the option to upgrade at their own cost, to Premium, Elite or Tailormade lenses.
Do you offer plastic frames for industries that require them?
Am I able to upgrade prescription safety glasses at my own cost?
You will be able to upgrade bifocal and varifocal lenses. This is a personal extra and payable at point of transaction. You are not allowed to add any extra tints or treatments.
Should my safety glasses break, can I get them repaired in store?
In order for us to comply with our BSI Kitemark licence (in respect to BS EN166 – Personal Eye Protection), all repairs must be tested for compliance to the aforementioned standard, carried out at our designated manufacturing site. The typical turnaround time for repairs is five working days. Every pair of prescription safety glasses holds a one-year warranty, free.
Can I use my existing prescription for a new pair of prescription safety glasses?
Yes - so long as it’s less than one year old. It’s advisable to have your eyes tested as close to the supply of prescription safety glasses as this should give maximum usage.
How long before my glasses will be ready?
Approximately ten working days, and sometimes sooner.
Optical
Can Optical eVouchers be used towards bifocal or varifocal lenses?
Yes. There are Bifocal add-on vouchers at £50 each and Varifocal add-on vouchers at £40 each. Alternatively, should the employee wish to upgrade themselves, this can be done in store at the point of transaction, at their own expense.
How many frames are there in the £50 range?
There are more 60 frames to choose from.
Can I use my Optical eVoucher in conjunction with other offers in store?
This eVoucher can be used in conjunction with many in-store offers, including our popular 2 for 1 offer.
Are my family eligible for a discount?
Premium Club is a £20 discount from the £100 frame range or above. Premium Club £20 eVouchers are available for family and friends and apply to selected instore offers only. Cannot be used with over-60s discount, student discount, the sale or easycare.
How quickly will I get my eVouchers?
eVouchers will be made available to your employer on receipt of their order and payment.
Do I have to use a specific Specsavers store?
You can visit any UK Specsavers store. There are more than 970 to choose from, many of which are open seven days a week, including some late nights.
Driving
What is the legal eyesight requirement to be able to drive?
The basic requirement is that you must be able to read (with glasses or contact lenses, if necessary) a car number plate made after 1 September 2001 from 20 metres. You must also have an adequate field of vision – your optician can tell you about this and do a test.
As an employer, do I have to provide eye tests for company drivers?
While employers are not directly compelled to take responsibility for the vision of employees who drive at work, employers have to look at their obligation under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. This stipulates that they are obliged to ensure, so far as reasonably practical, the health and safety of all staff while at work and that others are not put at risk by employees’ work-related driving activities.
Is there a way of recording when my drivers are due an eye test?
Yes – with the eVoucher portal this will be recorded from the first visit.
How much would it cost to provide an eye test and basic glasses for my drivers?
With the driver’s voucher, just £35. This will include a full eye examination plus up to £65 towards selected glasses*. *Priced £100 or more, fitted with standard CR39 single-vision lenses.
Are there any health issues that may affect my ability to drive safely?
Yes – diabetes, epilepsy, heart disease and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), to name a few. Many health conditions need to be reported to the DVLA – see the DVLA website for more information.
I drive professionally. How often do Specsavers recommend that I have my eyes tested?
Typically, every two years.
Can prescription sunglasses be made for driving?
Yes – please speak with the optician during your appointment about frame options.
Do I have to use a specific Specsavers store to obtain my glasses for driving?
You can visit any UK Specsavers store. There are more than 970 to choose from, many of which are open seven days a week, including some late nights.
